Do lakeside pizzerias really charge more?

One sample tested one claim. Most business questions compare two things: two neighbourhoods, before and after a menu change, two proportions. This week is the two-sample toolkit — independent samples large and small, paired samples, two proportions — and, above all, the judgement of which one applies.

By the end of Week 8 you will be able to

  • Build a confidence interval and a test for the difference of two means with large independent samples.
  • Do the same with small samples using the pooled t.
  • Tell paired from independent samples, and run the paired test on the differences.
  • Compare two proportions.
  • Choose the right two-sample procedure for a business question — the exam's real test.
